Acts 5:38-39 ... for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it...
Admittedly one of my favorite verses in the book of Acts, these are the words from a wise and well respected religious teacher called Gamaliel. Elsewhere, when Paul describes his qualification in Acts 22, he mentions that Gamaliel was his teacher further indicating that this man was perhaps one of the best teachers around. When Gamaliel spoke everyone listened. And that is exactly what happened in this story. Peter and John were captured and were being held captive due to their preaching of the Gospel. In the meantime the religious leaders were brainstorming on how to stop the disciples from further ministry, when Gamaliel gives them this advice. He basically says “if this initiative (of preaching the Gospel and healing people) is man-made, it will fail; but if its God-made, no one can stop it”.
2000 years later, no man still has been able to stop the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many rulers tried to stifle the fire of the gospel, and overthrow the Christian movement. Yet no one has succeeded to date. In fact, any one that has tried to destroy Christianity has inevitably met their doom. We just need to look at the present state of those then powerful countries. Why is this case? Because Christianity was not initiated by man, it was started by God.
And God continues to do His marvelous work of bringing souls to His kingdom. Christianity is not just another religious movement. It is the way to eternal life through Jesus’ death and resurrection. God our Heavenly Father desires that no one perishes but that every single one of us must enter His eternal kingdom. He loves us so much that He is willing to wait a 1000 years if that is what it takes. That has been and always will be God’s grand plan for humanity. To be in continous fellowship with His precious creation. And no power on earth or in the heavens can stop Him from accomplishing that.
God also has unique plans for each one of us. You did not come to this world by accident or chance. You were wonderfully and beautifully created by God to fulfill a specific purpose. When you identify that purpose, and step into it; no man on earth or even the devil himself will be able to stop it. Consider the life of Moses. He was born during a difficult time when the ruling king literally ordered all Hebrew baby boys to be killed, so that Israel’s growth spurt could be stopped. But through a series of events, not only did Moses escape his own murder, but also ended up executing the greatest logistical move ever – the Exodus of Israel from Egypt. All of this happened because God had purposed in His heart that Moses was going to be the man who would deliver Israel out of bondage. It has very little to do with Moses' abilities or qualifications. It was 100% God's pre-ordanied purpose for him. And no power on earth could stop that plan.
Has God started something in your life? It could be a new job, or a new ministry. May be you are doubting if it is from God Himself? And you are considering giving up on that. Well, here’s some fresh perspective for you. If it is from God, He Himself will intervene to help you all along the way until that purpose is accomplished. Here’s a good scripture to ponder upon as you consider His plans for you:
Phil 1:6 - being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Remember this truth: You did not start the good work, God did. So why suddenly worry about the success of that plan? It’s in God’s best interest for you to succeed. So that all glory and honor will go to Him in the end. You just need to be still and know that He is God! He will make it happen for sure.
