Acts 2:25-26 For David says concerning Him: ‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.
The Holy Spirit reveals Jesus Christ and God the Father to us and even brings their presence into our hearts. This was a promise by Jesus before He left this earth. Listen to these words from John 14:
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
The amazing thing is King David who lived way before the time of Jesus, got it. He was a man after God’s own heart who sincerely loved God and kept His commandments. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and received revelations like no one else during his time. And it one such revelation that he had been penned down as Psalm 16 that Peter quotes as proof that the resurrection of Jesus Christ had already been prophesied!
Here's the full portion that was referred to from Psalm 16:8-11
8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure,10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.11 You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
King David wouldn’t have realized that he was prophesying, but his declaration that his eyes are always on the Lord (i.e. Jesus Christ) gave him gladness in his heart, a song of praise and a hope that one day he too would be raised from the dead and experience the eternal joy of being with Jesus.
This is the sort of hope and trust that God will give us when we are filled with the Holy Spirit and put our trust in Jesus Christ. He fills us with supernatural peace, a reason to live, a hope in a good future and a song to sing. When our eyes are fixed on Jesus our Savior, nothing in this world can shake us, because we have the resurrection power of Christ inside of us. Let us personalize Romans 8:11 and declare this today :
“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in me, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to my mortal body through His Spirit who dwells in me. - Romans 8:11 (NIV)
Shalom.
